Madagascar is recognised as one of the most ecologically
rich countries in the world, with 80% of its flora found nowhere
else on earth. But its magnificent plant life is under threat.
Habitat destruction and over-collection mean that some rare
and beautiful species are on the verge of extinction, and
it is feared that without action, most of the island's remaining
original vegetation will disappear within the next 20 years.
If we act quickly we can rescue some species before it is
too late, and we have launched an appeal to raise the desperately
needed funds. Over the next three years Kew will focus conservation
work on threatened orchids, palms and succulents in Madagascar,
working with our partner organisations on the island.
Please help support this important appeal - your gift could
make the difference between survival and extinction for some
of these fragile species.
