Almond - Prunus dulcis

Did you know these nuts are ancient?

Almonds were found in the tomb of Tutankhamum, and were first cultivated in the Levant some 5000 years ago. They are also mentioned in the Bible. The Romans imported the fruits to England, along with many other foodstuffs, so they could have familiar plants and fruits to eat.

Do you love marzipan?

Love it or loathe it, marzipan is largely made from almonds.

Where did you get those nuts?

The USA is the world's largest producer of almonds. Almonds are their 7th largest food crop export.
