Nutmeg - Myristica fragrans

Twice Spice:

Nutmeg comes from the central seed kernel - whilst Mace comes from the dried aril around the seed.

Old Spice:

Nutmeg reached Europe around the 1100s; Chaucer mentions it in his Canterbury Tales.

Island Spice:

Nutmeg is native to the island of Moluccas in Indonesia. Grenada, Sri Lanka and Indonesia are now the world's main producers of this spice.
