Current research
|
Research on the Lamiaceae at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew is multidisciplinary, and the three scientific departments are all involved in collaborative projects. Most of the current projects are centred on the tropical members of the family, particularly the Ocimeae which includes the cultivated Basil and its relatives. There are also projects being carried out on groups such as Lavandula, Leucas, Leonotis, Stachys, Teucrium and Verbenaceae. The research team also produces Vitex, which acts as an international forum for discussion and contact between all researchers working on the Lamiales. An International Conference on the Advances in Labiate Science was held at Kew in 1991. A conference volume was produced which includes papers on current classification of the Lamiaceae, taxonomy, ethnobotany, phytochemistry and form and function in the Lamiaceae. |
