Orchid Book Award

The Slipper Orchids of Vietnam by Leonid Averyanov, Phillip Cribb, Phan Ke Loc, and Nguyen Tien Hiep with illustrations by Carol Woodin, published by Kew (distributed by Timber Press in N America) has received the Council on Botanical and Horticultural Libraries 2004 Annual Literature Award in the Technical category.

The award was presented at CBHL's Annual Meeting on the 15th June. Its purpose is to recognize a works that make a significant contribution to the literature of botany or horticulture. CBHL’s press release says:
“This outstanding plant monograph presents the 22 slipper orchid species and natural hybrids found within Vietnam. Richly illustrated with photos and drawings of both the plants and their habitats, the authors also present details of Vietnam's rich flora. Distribution maps, climate data and the exploration of significant conservation issues all unite to what can be described as everything a flora should be.”

The book was designed by Media Resources and produced by Kew Publishing, with typesetting and page layout by Christine Beard.

Created in 2000, the CBHL Annual Literature Award is given by CBHL to both the author and publisher of a work that makes a significant contribution to the literature of botany or horticulture.
